WHAT KIND OF CHURCH IS THIS? Christian Churches and Churches of Christ trace their modern origins to the early nineteenth-century American frontier and a wave of change called the Restoration Movement. At that time a number of individuals had frustrations with the man-made divisions separating denominations. They also longed to see the church recapture (restore) the unity that Christ had prayed for (John 17:21). The solution was found in establishing a brotherhood of congregations that exalt Christ alone and look to Scripture alone as our standard for faith and practice.
