The department's nearly 500 full-time state certified firefighter/paramedics, firefighter/EMTs, EMTs and paramedics serve more than 380,000 citizens, cover over 1,640 square miles (which is larger than the state of Rhode Island) and respond to an average of 225 emergencies a day.
