First Missionary Baptist Church is the fruit of seeds sewn in 1895 with a Sunday School organized and held in the home of Mr. & Mrs. Charlie Boggan and Mrs. Elvira Parker. Seeing the efforts bear fruit, these people were later joined by Jim Brown, Henry Pertervine, John Battle, and Rev. Berry Hasty, along with others. In 1897, two deacons from a neighboring church, First Baptist in Manley, were instrumental in organizing the Sunday School group into First Missionary Baptist Church.
