The USSSA Fastpitch Program began in 1999 with the help of Gordon Glennie and other USSSA Directors. After the approval and finalization from former CEO, Al Ramsey, and current Chairman of the Board and CEO, Don DeDonatis, the USSSA Fastpitch Program printed its official rule book and was on its way. In 2001 Jim Swint , Assistant Executive Director, suggested that the Fastpitch program should be divided into single age groups to allow more girls to participate. This vital change opened the door to today’s system, allowing 11, 13, and 15 & under divisions to attend the World Series. In 2007 USSSA was the first major association to increase their pitching distance to 43 feet for the 18 & Under Major Program. In 2009, the 43 foot pitching distance was applied to all 16 and 18 & Under divisions and in 2011 this distance will be adopted by the 11, 13, 14, and 15 & Under programs. USSSA partnered with the Women’s Professional team from the National Professional Fastpitch League (NPF) in 2009 and became official sponsor of the USSSA Florida Pride. In 2010, the Pride had a successful season, winning the NPF Championship.
