Adopt a senior dog!
10 year old Betty White is deaf, blind...and happy to report she has found The Good Life! Betty White got ADOPTED!! Betty White was posted on SSD at the beginning of this month. She made her way to a small Wisconsin rescue, Lucky 7 Dog Rescue, from a very crowded shelter in another state. Not long after getting to Wisconsin, Betty White was adopted by a young woman named Sarah who had read countless inspirational senior dog adoption stories and decided that she, too, was going to be one of those people who adopted an older dog. Despite being turned down several times before due a busy work-life, Sarah was determined to adopt. And her desire and determination benefitted both her and Betty White! Sarah wrote, "Betty White and I are having a ball of a time. People are surprised when I say I just adopted her and that she is 10 years old, blind and deaf. I was a little overwhelmed in the beginning, but her and I have worked out a routine and we are still figuring each other out. She is all that I have hoped for...and more! She's fearless, trusting, playful, cuddly, smart and just overall awesome. So many people ask about her because of her cute head tilt, but in just 10 seconds they realize how awesome she is even with her lack of a couple senses. I was actually turned down for adoption of a few dogs because I work 8 hours a day and I live in an apartment. But she is 100% potty trained and just perfect! She's great with all dogs and people of all ages and babies and toddlers don't phase her! She stayed the night at my friend's house this weekend and LOVED playing with one of the dogs there. She's amazing in crowds with people and dogs alike. I'm so happy I can bring her anywhere! (I may have just bought a baby wrap to carry her in. She loves it.) I'm so lucky to have found Betty White and I hope she feels the same way about me!!!" Betty White's original post:

Haro did something pretty remarkable today....yesterday we were contacted by a teacher at a local elementary school who was present for a K9 Demo Haro and I did at the school last year. He remembered Haro doing an article search in the demo, so He asked if Haro would be able to help find a very expensive hearing aid a child had lost at recess. Haro was still a bit under the weather from a dewclaw problem he's been having, so we were unavailable. Haro is feeling much better today, so we went to the school to give it a try. After about 10 minutes of searching, Haro managed to find this tiny hearing aid in a playground full of mulch about 24 hours after it was dropped. Truly a needle in a haystack scenario! Great job Haro! #goodjob #workingdog #gsd #germanshepherd #k9 #k9unit #thinblueline #dog

Our girl Whitney is about the same as yesterday, however it was noted she seemed a bit more alert and brighter today, which is a wonderful thing! She also hasn't stopped getting up and wagging her tail when her favorite people stop in to check on her, a testament to her sweet loving nature. Today Whitney got a plasma transfusion and a feeding tube. She hasn't eaten since the fire as she has burns in her mouth from being in a hot wire crate so eating is painful for her. The vet staff is hoping the plasma coupled with nutrition will give her a boost and help in her healing. Whitney also has edema- fluid swelling from the burns she sustained. Her condition is still considered guarded. Whitney is being well taken care of by the team at FVARC where she is getting the specialty treatment she needs. We want to thank everyone who has donated to Whitney's care and to the staff at Fox Valley Animal Referral Center. We wouldn't be able to help so many animals without the generosity of our compassionate community. We will continue to update everyone on Whitney's condition in the coming days.
