Windward Roofing & Construction was founded by Randy Kuhn in 1978. The name Windward comes from a sailing term that means ” toward the wind or point from which the wind blows”, which is where the action is. Randy is an avid sailor, as chronicled in the October 2007 edition of Roofing Contractor Magazine, and has participated in several Race to Mackinac voyages winning first in section five times. A successful captain needs to anticipate problems, to assemble a top-notch crew and to adapt to ever-changing conditions. These same skills serve Randy as President and CEO of Windward Roofing.
Windward started as small company focused on flat (low-sloped) roofs. While installing new roofs, Randy quickly saw that many buildings needed not only roofing, but related masonry and sheet metal work. The only way to control quality and production, however, was to integrate these services and offer customers a holistic, one-stop-shop approach. Windward expanded to include divisions capable of handling these construction needs.
Today, Windward Roofing has five divisions comprised of low and steep-sloped roofing departments, as well as masonry, sheet metal and service departments. These divisions are run by industry-leading professionals who are the best in the business. Our division supervisors work as a team to supply our clients with a comprehensive approach, beginning with a thorough evaluation before a project begins, followed by a coordinated production effort, and ending with a plan for maintaining the roof into the future.
Technological progression and environmental concerns have brought about many changes in the roofing industry. Windward has adapted to these changes and offers systems and materials that can enhance a building’s energy efficiency. Windward promotes continuing education and training for its staff to advance their knowledge of new systems and application methods. Windward Roofing’s newly formed Green Roofing department is a prime example of the company’s commitment to providing our clients with the most up-to-date options for their roofing needs.
