United Way Board Member Pam Gerbi testified this week in support of a bill to implement a statewide voluntary Early Childhood Consultation Program before the Legislature’s Education and Cultural Affairs Committee. This bill would support providers and teachers in child cares, Head Starts, and public Pre-K classrooms who are dealing with ongoing challenging behaviors, such as hitting, biting, withdrawn from others, angry words, threatening others, etc. Maine has the second highest rate of expulsions and suspensions from early care settings in the country, and this bill will provide coaching for teachers and parents to work together to help ensure positive learning environments for all children.
