Social Posts for Al-Anon

In the March 2017 issue of Al-Anon's "The Forum" magazine a member shares: “My son was an infant when I committed to attending Al-Anon, and I took him to meetings with me. My three daughters attended with me occasionally, and we went to open Alcoholics Anonymous meetings as well. Issues came and went as they were growing up, and throughout the years, their drinking affected me. As Tradition Three states, ‘the only requirement for membership is that there be a problem of alcoholism in a relative or friend.' It doesn't ask that I define it or give it a score. That was not my role. My role was to continue letting change begin with me by learning healthy behaviors and responses to alcoholism, even when alcohol was not present. After all, it is called alcoholism, not ‘alcoholwasism.'" “What kept me coming back?" “The Forum" March 2017 Al-Anon is for anyone affected by someone else's drinking. Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Paul Schoenfeld, shares: “Al-Anon provides a #community of #family #members who struggle to establish a loving relationship with their ill family member, but at the same time, not to enable their #disease. Parents, brothers, sisters, and #children begin to realize that dependency on #alcohol is not a moral failing or a choice…It's a condition that their loved one lives with." “A father learned in Al-Anon that alcoholism is a family disease," “Al-Anon Faces Alcoholism 2017" " Read this #article by Dr. Schoenfeld, goo.gl/0oq3lW. #AlAnon #Alateen #recovery #alcoholism #alcoholic #alcoholics #drinks #familydisease #relapse #sobriety #support #12Steps #treatment #therapy #addiction #sober #meeting #drug #problems #AlcoholicsAnonymous #AA #friends #trust

In “Alateen: Hope for Children of Alcoholics" (B-3), an anonymous Alateen member shares: “I first noticed our way of living was different from other people's when I was old enough to visit friends' homes. Their parents didn't have a glass of booze glued to their hands; everybody didn't yell at everybody else all the time!... My mother got tired with the way she was living and started going to AA and Al-Anon. She found out that an Alateen group met near us every week, so I went to that… I learned that my parents were sick and that they had a disease I couldn't control. I couldn't do anything about their lives, but I could do something about my own." Find support in a local Alateen meeting.
