SAFETY INFORMATION: Please know, eye care professionals across the United States are recommending NO ONE view the upcoming eclipse using paper glasses, EVEN those with the proper ISO numbers and seal. It is STRONGLY recommended that those using the glasses use them OVER another DARK pair of sunglasses. Other alternatives to viewing are watching NASA's live streaming of the eclipse online or on television, using a pinhole viewer (instructions for building these are located below), or using a welding helmet/welding glasses with lenses shaded 14 or higher. If you choose to use the glasses, eye care professionals remind you to only GLANCE at the sun, DO NOT stare directly at it. We at the Benton County Library System urge you to use ALL PRECAUTIONS when viewing the eclipse, and remind you that the library ASSUMES NO LIABILITY for anyone's choice in viewing the upcoming eclipse, due to the possible dangers of sight impairment that can occur.

Benton County Public Library System shared their post.
Please let us clarify: IF you are ALREADY on the waiting list to receive glasses, we will CONTACT you as soon as they may be picked up. DO NOT call or come by UNTIL we have contacted you. We are NOT accepting new names for the waiting list due to unexpected demand caused by the recent events with possible unsafe glasses being distributed by manufacturers. 200 pairs of glasses will be available for CHILDREN 18 years and younger PARTICIPATING in the program on the DAY of the program. ANY extra pairs we have will be given out on MONDAY, August 21st beginning at 8:00 am when the library opens for the day on a first come, first served basis, 1 PAIR PER PERSON PRESENT. Please read all disclaimers in the post below and know that we want to help as many people safely view the eclipse as possible but are a small staff dealing with a large event. Your patience and respect is greatly appreciated and we hope to see you soon at the library!
SOLAR ECLIPSE GLASSES INFORMATION: We are happy to be presenting a program for the Solar Eclipse Viewing! We will have 200 pair of glasses for children under age 18 attending the program, first come, first served at program time. We will offer the opportunity, if you bring your own shoebox or large piece of black construction paper, to make a pinhole viewer BEFORE the program starts. These glasses were free to the library. Due to generous donations from our Friends group, EVERYONE ON OUR CURRENT LIST will receive the number of pair asked for of glasses between Friday and Monday morning. We will have approximately 300 extra pair that we will give out on a first come, first served basis MONDAY, August 21, 2017 beginning at 8:00 am. After checking lot numbers, the glasses we have and are receiving DO meet all the ISO requirements for solar eclipse viewing but we recommend extreme caution be taken by everyone, especially with regards to children looking directly at the eclipse. The library system can ASSUME NO LIABILITY for each individual's choice to view the eclipse using glasses obtained through the library. There are eye doctors recommending that no one watch the eclipse directly, due to the possible dangers of sight impairment that can occur. Please treat ALL staff with respect when speaking with them about the eclipse glasses situation created by sudden excessive demand of glasses due to circumstances well beyond their control. We are excited to offer this service and hope to meet your needs, as well as see you at our program!
