The ND League of Cities was formed in 1912 when representatives of 10 cities met in Grand Forks to discuss problems and solutions to city issues.
As the needs of cities grew over the years, the League established headquarters in Bismarck and hired full time staff. In 2002, the League moved to its present quarters in a renovated railroad warehouse in downtown Bismarck.
The League is governed by an executive board of three officers plus two city officials from each of the League's six regions. The board develops policies on behalf of the members to ensure the needs and concerns of municipal government are met.
