It is with great sadness that Fred Astaire Dance Studios announces the passing of friend and dance industry colleague, Mr. Lawrence Elkin. Lawrence was in the dance business for over 50 years, including time spent as a Fred Astaire Area Franchisor. He was also a talented dancer in his own right, and trained many Fred Astaire dance instructors during his time with us in that role. Lawrence was grandfather to Millie Elkin, Manager at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio Marietta, GA. Please join us in offering sincere condolences to Lawrence's family, and large circle of friends and associates. He will be greatly missed.

The waltz scene in “Beauty & the Beast” was a filming highlight for Emma Watson (Belle). Here’s her thoughts on the important role of this brief but pivotal scene. “I had a few months to learn the waltz. For me, that dance is the story of them falling in love. And so it had to have so much communicated through it, not just as a dance but as how two people interact and how their perception of one another changes, and it’s all wrapped up in this 2 or 3 minute moment. I’ve always loved to dance and getting to learn this specially choreographed dance between Beast and Belle was definitely a highlight. Both of us (speaking of co-star Dan Stevens) were just trying to figure out the logistics of, how do you do a three-minute waltz routine with a beast? I mean, he’s like three heads taller than me! It was really challenging, but we were so focused on the task at hand, it really helped carry us through it and it was a very bonding experience. I actually think I’m going to suggest that on all of my movies, my romantic co-star has to learn to do a dance with me. Because there’s no better way to bond with someone.”
