A Childs Place
All children are at risk of failure; but children experiencing the chaos of not having a safe, secure home at day’s end are at a moment in their lives of the greatest risk. We believe that every child deserves the right to stay focused on their education, develop passion for learning and use the power of their education to change their lives even as their family works through the chaos and crisis of being homeless.

A Child’s Place serves children in kindergarten through eighth grade who attend Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and qualify under the federal homelessness law. Our strategy focuses on providing a full range of services to children and their families while they are in the midst of this crisis to keep the student focused on academics and learning. From clean school uniforms and backpacks full of school supplies to shampoo and snacks, A Child’s Place makes certain that children who are homeless have what they need to be in school, prepared and ready to learn. Additionally, A Child’s Place works with the families of our students to provide referrals to secure safer housing, address medical needs, find financial assistance and ensure that their children’s social and behavior concerns are met.

Of the 4,131 identified homeless children attending Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools during the 2013-2014 school year, A Child’s Place provided assistance to 2,843. For more information, please visit
