In 1954, Leah Blakeman opened the Crest Cafe, located on the corner of 22nd Street and Mesa in San Pedro. The Crest was known for serving ice-cold beer and old fashioned burgers. In 1976, Joe Utovac took over the operation, added the Utro's name and vowed to carry on the family style business. Utro's Crest Cafe became a local hotspot for fishermen, longshoremen, law enforcement, and military personnel.
In July 1989, the property was sold and Utro’s Crest Cafe fell to the wrecking ball. It was a sad day for the Utovac family as well as the city of San Pedro. In October 1995, Joe found a new location in the historic Fisherman’s Wharf district and opened the doors once again. All of the vintage Utro's Crest Cafe paraphernalia was resurrected and continues to be an intregal part of the restaurant's decor. The tradition of serving ice-cold beer and old fashioned burgers continues.
Thanks to all of our patrons throughout the years and a warm welcome to those new folks just passing through.
