Coons Gallery

Coons Gallery is the oldest continuously operating gallery in the Eastern Sierra. The gallery was built in 1945 by California Art Club member, Robert Clunie. Richard Coons met Robert Clunie when he helped his grandfather, co-owner of Bishop Pumice Concrete Products, deliver the pumice block from the volcanic tablelands above Bishop to be used in the construction of the gallery. All of the wood used in the gallery was salvaged from Manzanar War Relocation Center following its closure at the end of World War II.

Following Robert Clunie's death in 1984, Richard Coons purchased the property, making it his own artist studio and gallery.
