Last Thursday, Jane Light, veteran librarian extraordinaire, along with ABA president, Pamela Anderson-Brulé, shared their combined knowledge regarding library design and current library trends with ABA’s staff, during our bi-monthly DesignLab. DesignLab is a place for the ABA team to let innovation and ideas percolate, to have diverse conversation about anything from bold new movements in architecture and interiors, to design charrettes about our own projects. It is a place for the veterans of our field to come together with younger staff to share thoughts and ideas with each other. The goal is to keep us on our design “toes” and to keep design innovation as part of everyday conversation.

ABA staff, Lee Salin, Kim McAfee, and Diane McCormick (not pictured), joined Blach Construction’s phone bank to support the San José-Evergreen Community College District Measure X Bond program.

ABA's principals took time to play on San Jose’s Musical Swing installation this week. The interactive play structure is a series of musical swings (yes, like those from your childhood) when used all together, compose a musical piece. The traveling civic installation has shown that it brings out people’s instinct to play. Those instincts overcome the learned behaviors that create distance between people and their environment. The Swings improve quality of life -- much like ABA’s corporate mission. Remember to play. Improve the environment and those around you.
