Scientific studies have proven that psycho-social support for cancer patients is a vital form of treatment in fighting the disease. Cancer Support Community Redondo Beach is a chapter of the Cancer Support Community, an international non-profit with over 100 chapters worldwide. Our mission is to ensure that all people impacted with cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and sustained by community - all completely free of charge.
Cancer Support Community Redondo Beach serves a diverse group of people with cancer who reside in the southwest portion of Los Angeles County. Cancer is the only criteria for receiving free services. In 2011, we served 4,052 cancer patients and their loved ones who visited Cancer Support Community 66,601 times. Our services include weekly cancer-specific support groups for individuals living with cancer and their caregivers. Licensed therapists encourage participants to adopt a set of actions, behaviors, and attitudes that will improve the quality of their life and ultimately could increase the possibility of recovery. We also offer monthly after-treatment networking groups for those recovering from breast cancer, brain tumor, carcinoid and neuroendocrine tumors, colorectal cancer, gynecological networking, lung cancer, leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and prostate cancer. In addition, there are family transition networks for those who have lost a loved one to cancer. Accompanying our core programs is a series of educational lectures, workshops, stress reduction, mind-body activities, nutrition lunches with guest speakers, social events, and online support.
