The WANDERING WHEELS' program dates back to 1964. We have conducted tours all over the and throughout the world. WHEELS has made 68 COAST TO COAST TRIPS with over 3,000 riders. Other destinations include Israel, China, Central Europe, New Zealand, Russia and Canada.
The early cycling years were summer trips much in the spirit of a church youth camp. In 1966 our first coast-to-coast bike trip was conducted from California to Delaware. The participants were all teenagers. The response to the 1966 tour was such that WHEELS conducted two coast-to-coast tours in 1967. Soon we were into a year-round cycling program serving church youth from all over America.
Our original purpose was to strengthen young people's understanding of God's place in their lives, building on mom and dad's input and that of their church. Our hope was to help cement their growing faith in Christ, somewhat in the spirit of Outward Bound. Mother Nature is one of God's best teachers. Even though our participants' average age has grown older, the original motivation is still the same. We use churches for much of our lodging and fellowship along the way.
We are a not-for-profit program attempting to make our tours available at the most reasonable rates to any one interested.
