Land Architecture, LLC, a leader in Louisiana landscape architecture design, is owned by Michael Cullen, who grew up in Baton Rouge but has called Lafayette home the last 15 years.
Married to the former Monica Arceneaux, who grew up in Acadiana and received her degree in education from the University of Louisiana – Lafayette, the Cullens have a 16-month-old son.
Cullen, a graduate of the LSU Robert S. Reich School of Landscape Architecture, worked for C. H. Fenstermaker and Associates following an internship in Japan and graduation from LSU.
He designs for south Louisiana’s semi-tropical climate, keeping in mind that south Louisianians like to spend as much time outside as the weather permits. He understands what it means to live here, what works and what doesn’t. Cullen’s landscapes are familiar and comfortable because of the techniques he uses to make the most of outdoor spaces.
Under Cullen’s direction, Land Architecture’s staff has expertise in complex projects that include residential master planning, custom swimming pools and spas, outdoor kitchens, lighting design, fountains, drainage solutions, planting and hardscape design.
Cullen’s designs draw on his study of landscapes around the world. The design library he uses to inform clients is a compilation of texts, photographs and objects collected from California through Europe and into the Pacific Rim. Cullen has designed and overseen the construction of some of Lafayette’s most exclusive gardens. His informed and artful application of construction materials produces durable, timeless designs.
