Thank you Jamie and Fargo Fire for this great comparison!
Here's a comparison of two cooking fires that occurred in January 2015. The sprinkler system controlled the fire and limited damage. In the other case, where fire sprinklers were not present, note the extensive smoke and fire damage. The captions share the incident number, date of incident, and estimated damage.

This is a common statement and a good explanation.
It's #TechTipTuesday! Today's tip: There is no need to use five times the weight of the water-filled pipe when using listed hanger components or attachment to the building structure. The safety factors are already addressed to support the weight of the water-filled pipe in the listing process. The building structure only has to support the added load of the water-filled pipe plus a minimum of 250 lbs applied at the point of hanging per 9.2.1.3.1 of NFPA 13. A hanger that is engineered has to be designed to support five times the weight of the water-filled pipe plus 250 lbs. at each point of piping support per 9.1.1.2. That's a safety factor of five. That only applies to hangers engineered for a specific application per 9.1.1.2.

Another great #SprinklerGeek post from Instagram! This awesome shot of an old steam threader, circa 1800s, was shared by @lsjuston. The photo was taken at Allsouth Sprinkler in Buford, Georgia. We love seeing old equipment like this! Do you have a photo to rival this one? Share it with the hashtag #SprinklerGeek!
