Woman's Club of Stuart

The Woman’s Club of Stuart is the oldest, continuous women’s service organization in Martin County beginning in 1913. We are proud members of the GFWC (General Federation of Women's Clubs) since 1914.

It may surprise you to know that the Woman’s Club of Stuart started the first free public library in Martin County. In 2008 the Martin County Library honored the Woman’s Club of Stuart by including them in their 50th anniversary plans. The Woman’s Club of Stuart hosted the anniversary party at the Blake Library where ‘Book to the Future,’ a movie about the history of the library, was viewed. The Woman’s Club of Stuart played a starring role in the film.

The statue in Haney’s Circle in downtown historical Stuart called ‘Abundance’ was presented to the City of Stuart in 1961 by the Woman’s Club of Stuart. Abundance was finally placed in Haney Circle in 1991.

“Since 1950 we have been giving scholarships to Martin County High School young women. In 2014 $18,000 was given to five Martin County senior girls for college. Scholarships are a major focus just part of the good work we do.

We have fun, too!” Our monthly luncheon/business meetings are held the third Wednesday of the month from September to May include a speaker and additionally, every month we have a literary club and, an antiques club. Dues include 7 luncheons a year. Our December and May luncheons are catered at an additional cost and require a reservation.

In 2009 a group of local young, business woman joined the Woman’s Club of Stuart. They are called the ‘Girlfriends Committee” and they meet the second Tuesday of the months from Sept. to May for one hour and attend our regular meetings when their busy schedules permits.

Our building is rented for numerous functions such as weddings, parties, business meetings, art shows, etc.
