Luca Mati, an Italian native, founded Mati Coffee in 1998. However, his connection to coffee runs generations deep. Most of his childhood was spent behind the bar of his parent’s coffee shop in Prato. There he learned the age-old art of making and serving a perfect cup of espresso. By the time he was in his early twenties he was offered a regional sales position with Caffé Essse. There, he was able to hone his sales skills and gain intimate knowledge of a multitude of espresso blends. He worked directly with manufacturers and suppliers of espresso machines, grinders and other restaurant equipment necessary to run the vast array of coffee bar establishments in Italy.

In 1996 Mr. Mati moved to Chicago where he immediately began working in the coffee industry. In 1998 he opened Mati Coffee where he introduced the Essse Caffé brand to North America and he become an expert at troubleshooting, repairing and servicing virtually all brands of espresso machines. But selling coffee was not enough – he took his passion for coffee and infused it with the desire to provide high quality, individualized service for all his clients.


Since its establishment Mati Coffee has served over 10,000 satisfied customers.
