American Legion Post 69 shared History Museum on the Square's event.
This exhibit tells the stories of local heroes who fought and died in the “war to end all wars” and their loved ones back on the home front. This exhibit features one-hundred-year-old film from the United States Army Signal Corps, items from the History Museum on the Square’s collection, and items loaned from private collections and the Goad-Ballinger American Legion Post 69. Walk through a recreated trench and get an idea of what it felt like on the Western Front. Experience the stories of 1914 to 1918 wartime in great detail. Visitors will see stories about French Croix de Guerre recipient Myrl Billings, pilot John Goad who was the first casualty from Springfield, and many others who left Springfield and Greene County to fight on the fields of France. The exhibit will be open Monday through Saturday from 10:30 until 4:30 from February 13th until July 8th. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children. Museum members receive free admission. Veterans receive free admission, thanks to our presenting sponsors Phenix Marble Company and Conco Companies. For more information, contact the museum at 417-831-1976 or info@historymuseumonthesquare.org
