In May 2016, there are 34,655 children in LA County with open DCFS cases; 680 of them are Asian Pacific Islander children. Among the API children, there are 107 Chinese, 197 Filipino, 72 Cambodian, 40 Korean, 38 Vietnamese, 33 Japanese children receiving child welfare services. There are extremely few Asian foster families, and API children removed from their homes are often placed in non-Asian foster homes that are not culturally and linguistically a good match, hence, adding to the trauma they’ve already experienced. We are in need of more Asian foster homes! Please join us for an Information Session on "How to Become a Foster Parent" on 12/4/16, Sunday, 1:30-3:30pm in Alhambra. The session will be in English, with Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese interpretation
