Since its founding, MCCF has awarded more than $8 million to local charities. MCCF receives its funding from individuals and organizations who care about Muskingum County enough to establish charitable funds.
Funds are usually named after the donor or the donor's family and can be established by a contribution of $5000 over a five-year period. The earnings from the fund will be given to charity in the name of the fund forever. Nearly 300 named funds have been established at MCCF since 1988.
In 2008, MCCF distributed $1,490,354 in grants to local charities and nonprofit organizations.
In addition, MCCF has taken the lead in community projects such as the PURE Center and the Weller Vase in Place Project.
The Foundation purchased Park Central (formerly Armco Park) in April 2008 and is currently leasing the facility to the Muskingum Family Y for their programming.
Housed at MCCF, the Scholarship Central College Access Program is designed to provide a comfortable place for students, parents, and residents to obtain information about colleges and universities, scholarships, and local financial aid opportunities. At MCCF is also an Ohio Lighthouse for GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs).
