Video City Directories, LLC
I've been a small business owner since 1995, and have lived in the Lake Tahoe, Carson City, Reno, and Fallon areas for more than 20 years.
In 2002, I was introduced and became involved with a network marketing company that promoted video e-mail. I lived in a small city, and it seemed like the only way to let people know what I did (besides talking to family and friends) was to put flyers on a couple of bulletin boards and on the windshields of the cars in parking lots, or do radio and There wasn't a middle ground between the two extremes.
After much trial and error, I began publishing the Internet magazine "Discover Video E-mail Ezine", which was designed to teach people how to use Internet video for marketing their products and services. Mind you, it was in the early pioneering days of video (2003).
One day as I was browsing through an Internet newsletter, I saw an opportunity to create a city directory. I really liked the idea, and the Discover Fallon Online directory was born. After I customized the directory, I had to face up to the fact that I needed to go out and show this to business owners. Even though I was scared to death to open the door to a business and do my presentation, I enjoyed getting to know the business owners--most of the time.
As I was working with my new clients, the thought came to me that maybe I could try to combine the two services, directory and video e-mail. I worked for several days researching, learning, and testing variations of HTML code. I'll never forget the day when the video actually played on the directory website. I was ecstatic! I danced around the living room and told my kids, "We're not going to TELL people how they can use video for their 're going to DO the videos for them! We're going to put their videos on the directory pages!"
So I went back to my clients, told them that I wanted to take a video of them describing their business, and soon I had videos on their business pages. Within two years I had expanded my business to include seven more city directories that included Reno, Sparks, Lake Tahoe, Minden, Gardnerville, Dayton, and Fernley.
There are so many businesses that have wonderful products and services to offer! I love finding out what other people's passions are and helping to get the word out about them.
The most common response I get from people who browse through the directory is, "I didn't know that business had those products. I didn't know they had those services. Oh my gosh, this is really neat, Linda, keep it up!" And so I have.
