For Timothy (TJ) Lepore, MD, the new medical director of Pioneer Women’s Health at Baystate Franklin Medical Center, it’s all about community. Whether it’s the one he is serving, or the one he is collaborating with at work, Dr. Lepore recognizes the value in personal relationships. “I grew up in a small town, my father was the local surgeon”, he explains, “He would make house calls, he actually still does. I would do my homework in his office after school and was able to witness him interacting with former patients when we were out doing this in town. He was able to connect with the people he was treating in a wide variety of ways. I knew that I wanted to work in a community where I could have a similarly positive impact”. In addition to his father’s impact, he was inspired to work at Pioneer Women’s Health as a result of the midwife-driven model. “We can provide a more holistic approach, and commit to patient care in a very personal, individualized way. Women are oftentimes the drivers of their family so when a woman is happy and healthy, it truly has a knock-on effect on her family and ultimately the entire community”.

Recently, members of the United Bank Board of Trustees toured Baystate Medical Center and our Acute Care for Elders (ACE) Program & Unit to see first-hand the impact of their generosity. Earlier this year, the United Bank Foundation of Massachusetts supported the ACE program with a $50,000 grant to help establish a permanent unit in our hospital. “For anyone who has an elderly family member who required a prolonged hospital stay, you want peace-of-mind knowing your loved ones are comfortable in a compassionate setting, receiving top medical care and are on course to return home to lead independent lives when they are discharged. Baystate has a proven record for meeting these patient care goals and successfully addressing the unique physical and psychological needs of elderly patients,” said Dena M. Hall, Western Mass Regional President and President of the United Bank Foundation Massachusetts. “We know our $50,000 financial commitment will help Baystate continue to be a leader in transforming elder care in Western Mass.” Thank you, United Bank! #BHFCharityofChoice #BHFMakeAnImpact #BankatUnited
