First Command’s history begins in the late 1950s, when United States Air Force Lt. Col. Carroll Payne worked closely with the families of several crew members killed in an aircraft accident. Saddened by the survivors’ financial difficulties, and eager to help other military families effectively prepare for their financial futures, Lt. Col. Payne began laying the groundwork for the company that would become First Command.
Today, First Command Financial Services and its subsidiaries, including First Command Financial Planning and First Command Bank, coach our Nation’s military families in their pursuit of financial security. Since 1958, First Command Financial Advisors have been shaping positive financial behaviors through face-to-face coaching with hundreds of thousands of client families.
