It's Miss Betty here! I want to make my surprise announcement to all of you finally! No, it's not a baby (thank fully, although we all know baby donks are the cutest!). Here it is: A pair of special donors has made a grant to build a special donkey barn at Peace Ridge Sanctuary- especially for the rescue and care of DONKEYS! The building is going up this month- so we'll have new digs and a ton of room! At the same time, another donor has offered us a MATCHING GRANT opportunity- she will match the first ten thousand dollars donated to us so we can order almost half of the hay we need to feed our one hundred hay eating residents through 2017! We've combined both of these opportunities into an event for those who donate: for every donation of 50 dollars or more (per adult attendee), you'll be invited to attend an evening of wine and hors'doeuvres on July 29th at 5 pm, meet the donkeys, tour the new property and help us celebrate all the donkey love! http://peaceridgesanctuary.org/donate/donkeybarn.html We hope to see you there- it will be quite a night!

Bee's Pet Boarding shared Forgotten Felines of Maine's post.
Yesterday I started a FundRazr to help kickstart our TNR (trap, neuter, return) efforts. We had zero donations but what we did receive were calls for more help. Yesterday's post received not a single donation but it did receive an added colony. This means even more cats that I cannot turn a blind eye too. We don't get any financial support to do this work. If I am not begging for money it doesn't come...at all. We don't live in an area were we are getting truly low cost spay/neuter. This new colony is another 45 miles away. We are in rural Maine...nothing is easy or right down the street. There are not enough vets to do the work and many, believe it or not, will still not work with ferals. So after my post yesterday I received two calls for help. One was from a kind woman who is feeding a colony and is struggling financially to not only feed the cats but pay the vet bills to have them spayed/neutered. She sent me a photo of a beautiful VERY pregnant momma cat that needs trapping asap. So this morning after two vet visits I am going to meet her with food and a trap and see what we can do. I would LOVE to get this momma into a warm, safe foster home so she can have her babies. This is why we need to trap now...we don't need anymore unwanted kittens. But we need your help. Vet costs are high. We also received a call last night from a lady who no longer wants her purebred Abyssinian cat because it is not getting along with her other cats. Instead of just trying to figure out a way to make it work she is getting rid of her. We are getting her this weekend. We have helped many Abys over the years because these cats are not easy to place because they need just the right home. They are an unique breed for sure. If you don't think we aren't busy each and every day we are. I also fielded other calls yesterday but they are on wait lists. So please if you believe in the work we do we need your help...this is no joke. Please, please, please help us. Please... You can donate directly thru our FundRazr: (http://fnd.us/a1EL44?ref=sh_611MN0) Thru PayPal: paypal.me/forgottenfelinesme Thru mail: FFoM, 499 Broadway #151, Bangor, ME 04401 You can also help by sending money directly to our vets (make check payable to the vet office and then make sure you put on the Memo line that it's for Forgotten Felines of Maine's account). Small Animal Clinic 9 Toothaker Lane Ellsworth, ME 04605 207-667-8087 Brewer Veterinary Clinic 111 Pierce Rd Brewer, ME 04412 207-989-6533 As always thank you for believing in us. To meet me is to understand the depth of my compassion and committment to this cause! There are not enough of us doing this work! God bless. <3
