Through BBF support, four private colleges in Indiana have received Ball Venture Fund grants totaling $75,000 which will be used to launch or support innovative programs on their campuses and in their communities. The Ball Venture Fund program is organized by Independent Colleges of Indiana. Funded projects include a Butler University effort to support students with visual impairments in reading mathematical images like charts and graphs, a Franklin College project that will connect students with direct patient care opportunities at a senior living community, a Marian University project that will support literacy and cultural competency training for immigrants, refugees, and students, and an Oakland City University project which will create a mock crime scene to help college, high school, and middle school students (as well as law enforcement officers) hone their forensic investigation techniques.

BBF welcomes Geoffrey Mearns, 17th President of Ball State University. Mearns and his wife, Jennifer, met BBF's board of directors earlier this month and joined us on a bus tour of the city highlighting various projects BBF has helped to support. Here President Mearns speaks with Jud Fisher, BBF's President and COO.

Our friends at the MSO recently shared this parent feedback with BBF about the “Together in Music” program which takes the symphony on the road to places that symphonies don’t traditionally go! It’s especially exciting to see the MSO reaching out to our community’s littlest learners to instill a love of music early on. BBF has been pleased to support this program since 2014.

A BBF Rapid Grant of $5,000 awarded in 2016 is allowing medical students training at the IU School of Medicine-Muncie to participate in wellness programs at Ball State University. Through this innovative partnership, medical students visit the Clinical Exercise Physiology Lab where they receive a comprehensive physical fitness and health assessment followed by an individualized exercise prescription. Through their personal participation in the program, students are able to see how they can integrate wellness concepts into their work with patients.
