We Care was established in 1999 by the Manatee County Medical Society to address the need of access to medical care for the working poor. To qualify for our program, patients must be between the ages 18-64 years, reside in Manatee County, be at or below 200% of the federal poverty line and have no health insurance or the ability to pay for the requested medical services. Physicians and their practices are extended state sanctioned sovereign immunity which enables them to work liability-free when caring for our patients.

We Care Manatee has three programs that work together to provide comprehensive free healthcare for those that qualify.

Specialty Physician Program - The Specialty Physician Program connects eligible patients with volunteer physicians who are willing to treat patients for free. In order for a patient to qualify for the Specialty Physician Program, a referral is sent to us from a primary care physician or local emergency room along with medical documentation of need.

Pharmaceutical Program - The Pharmaceutical Program enables patients being treated by volunteer physicians to obtain free prescription medication. This allows our physicians to medically manage their patients more effectively.

Breast Health and Wellness Program- provides free mammograms, ultrasounds, surgical consultations and biopsy's to eligible men and women age 40-64 years old.
