Saginaw MAX System of Care was launched in 2009 by a group of Saginaw County's human service organizations. They received a six year grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to develop a children's mental health system of care, and Saginaw MAX was born.
Saginaw MAX is based on the idea that an effective system of care for youth with complex emotional and behavioral issues must bring together everyone involved in supporting those youth. That includes:
* Youth and their families * Education * Community Mental Health * Department of Human Services * Juvenile Justice * Care coordinators * Family advocates * Faith-based * Law enforcement * Recreation
Saginaw MAX looks at care as a process built around five principles:
* All planning and service delivery is family-driven and youth-guided * Services are planned, delivered and managed at the community level * Agencies and programs are equally able to serve all people who need service, regardless of racial, ethnic, language or cultural differences * Public and private agencies are all working together for the benefit of the youth and his or her family * All care is rooted in solid research
