Founded in 1982 by Tom Oliff, ADU has grown to be one of the mid-Atlantic’s largest appliance dealers. Tom was a native of , growing up in South East, who picked himself up by his bootstraps to buy the appliance repair company he worked for after working as a repair technician there for many years. After successfully running his service business for several years, Tom realized that selling appliances would be the way to grow his business. Seeing a need in the marketplace for an appliance dealer who specialized in serving builders, remodelers, property managers, and designers, Appliance Distributors Unlimited began with a small location in Takoma Park, MD, not far from our current Takoma Park store.

Tom’s vision took off and ADU began its steady growth to service the entire Baltimore-Washington metro region. Tom’s daughters, Linda and Christy, grew up in the business and struck out on their own to open their own successful stores in the region (“The Appliance Source”). With Tom’s unfortunate passing in 2017, Linda and Christy decided to continue his legacy on the foundation of integrity, service, and community that he built. In 2019, Linda and Christy’s Appliance Source stores officially joined Appliance Distributors Unlimited to become ADU – Your Appliance Source. With eight showrooms and almost one hundred coworkers as of 2020, ADU continues their growth and service to their community.

Since 1982, ADU has been the destination for home builders, kitchen designers, contractors, property managers, and homeowners remodeling their kitchens. Our showrooms are designed with functional kitchen spaces and vignettes, to showcase the appliances how they would look in the home, giving our customers the best inspiration for their dream kitchen. Our sales staff receives extensive, ongoing training with the products we carry, so you can be confident you’re making the right choice for your next project. We understand the needs of builders, contractors, and remodelers and will work with you not only to select the appliances but also to ensure they will meet the needs and specifications of your project. We specialize in helping our customers select entire kitchen packages and working closely with builders, contractors, and designers to coordinate projects.

We specialize in supplying builders, remodelers, kitchen dealers, and their clients; providing complete kitchen appliance packages for homeowners remodeling their kitchens; and serving general and commercial contractors, property managers, the hospitality industry, schools, hospitals, and offices. We are deeply aware of the issues that homeowners, designers, and contractors face whether they are remodeling one kitchen, building one house, or developing 300 apartments, and we strive to be the easiest supplier to work with during such a stressful and deadline-driven time for the stakeholders.

ADU is also committed to being a contributing member of our community, whether through direct donations or the generous volunteerism of our coworkers who receive our support with paid time off to volunteer with charitable organizations. From Ronald McDonald House, Habitat for Humanity, Hospice of the Chesapeake, to No Person Left Behind and many others, we value sharing our success with our community.
