Ascension Lutheran Church (Thousand Oaks, CA) shared Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's post.
Thanking God for the leadership and gifts of all women clergy and within our own congregation for three of them, Pastors Joanne Oemig (who leads our evening prayer healing services), Melissa Maxwell-Doherty (who serves on our Mutual Ministry Committee) and Chamie Delkeskamp (who teaches in our school and leads our garden ministry). We appreciate when each of them has preached in our worship services! We thank God for the many other women in our congregation who serve in wonderful pastoral ways without being ordained. #ELCA #socalsynod #womenclergy
Today marks 47 years since the first American Lutheran woman was ordained as a pastor. The Rev. Elizabeth Platz, was ordained Nov. 22, 1970, by the Lutheran Church in America, one of the ELCA's predecessor church bodies. One month later, the Rev. Barbara Andrews was ordained by the American Lutheran Church, another predecessor church of the ELCA. We give thanks for these leaders who paved the way for all who are called to rostered ministry in our church!

500 years since Martin Luther nailed the 95 Theses on the Wittenberg Castle church door.
