TrueNorth Wellness Services featured Fran Wishnick at its recent Annual Meeting. Wishnick is the author of "Craig Climbed a Tree," a book about her autistic son Craig and the need for changes in our systems of care and how we treat each other. Unfortunately, Craig completed suicide at just 27-years-old. In her presentation, Fran stressed that society’s need for labels harm individuals. “People are not labels, even though we think of them as labels. Labels define people by the weaknesses, not their strengths.”

Financially, they have supported all of TrueNorth’s fundraisers,Clutch It Up,he AKC Autism Center Capital Campaign and Basket Bingo, (formerly Casino Night, where after the evening events concluded, they donated all the money they won back to our agency). Also, Roger and his son Joe Holland, Holland Construction, have been extremely supportive as our General Contractor for our new Autism Center. Our second award recipient was Michelle Hovis, Executive Director, York County Human Services (YCHS), who oversees the county's human services departments. Included in these departments are: Children & Youth Services, Drug & Alcohol, Mental Health/Mental Retardation, Area Agency on Aging, Veterans Affairs, Youth Development Center and HealthChoices Management Unit.
