Aurora Health Care hosted more than 350 high school students at a private showing of an acclaimed, award-winning film, Hidden Figures, followed by a panel discussion from a diverse group of women leaders from Aurora. “At Aurora, our purpose is to help people live well, and much of why we are able to carry out this purpose is through our innovative advances in science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” said Cristy Garcia-Thomas, chief diversity and inclusion officer with Aurora Health Care. “Much like the women in Hidden Figures, our panel of Aurora caregivers uses these four fields to accomplish remarkable things every day.” The invited students are each involved in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and health care curriculum at North Division High School, South Division High School, James Madison Academic Campus, Alexander Hamilton High School, Cristo Rey Jesuit High School–Milwaukee, St. Joan Antida High School and Young Coggs Preparatory Academy. The Aurora panel discussed the disparity of women in STEM fields, the personal experience of working in health care and advice for students pursuing a STEM career. The six panelists were: Dr. Judy Tjoe, Surgical Breast Oncology Dr. Felicia Robertson, Family Medicine Erika Colon, Nurse Ambassador MaryBeth Kingston, Chief Nursing Officer Jacqueline Oraedu, Physician Assistant Dr. Nyama Sillah, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (Moderator) Vivian King, Vice President, Community Relations
