Advocacy Alert! Take a few minutes to make a significant impact on the future of young adults in Rhode Island... Study after study has shown that aging out of foster care without permanent family connections significantly increases the risk of homelessness, unemployment, incarceration, unaddressed mental illness and substance abuse, and poverty. And studies show that extending foster care to age 21 significantly improve outcomes in all of those areas. It only takes a moment to contact your legislator and urge them to support Senate Bill 0669 and House Bill 5807, the Young Adult Voluntary Extension of Care Act. This important bill will ensure that youth in DCYF care can access services up to the age of 21 instead of facing the world alone at 18. Click here to contact your legislator now and contact Adoption Rhode Island to learn more ways to stay involved: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/voluntary-extension-of-care #time2succeed

We just wrapped up a great meeting with the governing board of the Rhode Island State Council of Churches, who voted unanimously to endorse the Young Adult Voluntary Extension of Care Act (S0669/H5807)! Thank you for your support and advocacy to improve outcomes for young adults exiting state care and giving them #time2succeed

Being a foster child is not easy. You are away from your family and friends, attend a new school and seldom get to do things that most kids take for granted. While some of these circumstances are unfortunately unavoidable, the employees at Hasbro Inc wanted to help these kids have some of the childhood experiences that every child should have. Yesterday, Hasbro hosted the “Raffle Rumble”! It was incredible day of raffles and silent auction items all with one goal - to grant wishes, simple wishes to our kids. The wishes included everything from wanting to take driver’s ed, to a spa day, shopping for some new clothes, and attending a sporting event. They wanted these kids to experience something that shouldn’t be extraordinary, but for all too many it is. Hasbro would like this event to be the beginning of something wonderful. With the proceeds from this event, Adoption RI is starting a wish fund. Anyone wishing to contribute any amount to this fund to make a wish come true for a child in care would be most welcome. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if any child who wanted to play baseball, go to dinner with siblings separated in care, or buy a new outfit for school would have the resources to do so? Thank you to all of the generous employees of Hasbro for truly making a difference in the lives of so many deserving kids!
