Current Status & Impact: Day in day out we see news reflecting farmers pain. Quite frequently we see that farmers in various region suicide as they are unable to shoulder their basic responsibilities. Few farmers don’t suicide but then keep on attempting various options to earn better but still struggle lifetime. Inspite of better production , they struggle to even meet Basic transport expenses when they try to sale something in market.
This lifetime struggle of farmers can lead to below issues:
1) No one is willingly doing farming & slowly we might lose complete farming community.
2) Food supply to all residents in India can be a big issue if we don’t have sufficient farming
3) It can be economy crisis as rates can go beyond control as we might have import many food items from outside.
This is just broad list but impact can be much worse than I have visualized here.
Why So?
1) Unpredictable weather conditions leading to sequential draughts
2) Rate are totally unpredictable & farmers rely mostly on vague inputs from various sources.
3) Reach of technology to farmers
4) Knowledge distribution to farmers
5) Lack of better market place or government policies, where they get some basic guarantee of rate
I know many parameters here are not in our control but being from technology background my first attempt is to start with rate forecast tool which will help them to predict better & plan crop in a way which will make farming community stronger and sustainable.
