In 2003, WHC joined the Planetree alliance to become part of a movement to transform health care delivery from the patient’s perspective. Planetree Patient-Centered Care Designation was granted in June, 2009 making the health center the first Critical Access Hospital in the nation and the first hospital in Iowa to receive the prestigious designation.

Many hospitals claim to be patient-centered, but few truly have built their culture and core values around the patient and their families’ needs. At WHC, the ultimate goal is to empower patients to be active participants in their health care to help them achieve and maintain wellness.
