Brookdale Senior Living shared Jeremy Cowart's photo.
How cool is this? Our associate Rey Espinosa, who serves as the maintenance director at the Brookdale Bonita Springs community, was featured in Jeremy Cowart's 'Resilient Light' series, which highlights the strength of the southwest Florida communities during Hurricane Irma. #ResilientLight #FloridaStrong #BrookdaleStrong #JeremyCowart
During my time on the Resilient Light project I came across the story of Rey Espinoza who was in complete hero mode, taking care of his own family, his community and the residents over at Brookdale Bonita Springs while his home was damaged by Hurricane Irma. Instead of worrying about himself and his family, he made the choice to take care of others. We stopped by to see him and he spent some time with us in Bonita Springs. Vera Garner, 89, has an undeniable love for singing. In her younger years, you could find her performing on the stage of the Royal Theater -- the same theater that hosted performers such as Louis Armstrong and Ethel Waters. As a young girl, she sang in her church's choir and later the Handel Choir of Baltimore with her husband Mervin. While it's been three years since she's last taken the stage, Vera remains optimistic. She never turns down an opportunity to sing and dance down the halls of Brookdale Pikeville. Wish of a Lifetime helped us reunite Vera with her old church choir.

The latter part of 2017 has been devastated by natural disaster in several areas of the United States. From hurricanes to wildfires, our communities have been through so much. We've been following Jeremy Cowart as he uses his talents to bring relief to the people and families that have lost everything due to the devastating effects of Hurricane Irma. His project ‘ResilientLight’ is focusing on the beauty that comes with destruction. Through his artwork he's showing the world the resiliency of the Florida people and their communities, how they came together during and after Irma as one to support one another and overcome such loss.

Happy Friday the 13th! Enter if you dare...
