IN MEMORIAM REV. RUDY CAREAGA 1960 - 2017 Dear Members, Congregants and Friends of AMC, It is with a heavy heart that the AMC/UMC community learned of the passing of our former Head Pastor of AMC, Rev. Rodolfo "Rudy" Careaga. His passing occurred earlier this year in the beginning of February and was the result of a culmination of factors affecting his health. Rev. Rudy had suffered a second heart attack in the fall of 2016 (the first heart attack occurred several years ago) and unfortunately this served as a prelude that Rev. Rudy was not long for this earth. While many of you may have question after question, I can assure you that we do not have all the answers and we may never know all the intimate details of his passing. What we do know is that his body was turned over to his family and they will be holding a memorial service in Madison,Wisconsin for him on his birthday June 17. I wanted to take a moment to share with you that I had the luxury of reconnecting with Rev. Rudy in 2016. I say "reconnecting" because he was for lack of a better term "off the grid" from most of us. My brother Rudy lived off of coffee! One of the things he loved was having a cup of coffee and just talking. If you were fortunate to share one of these moments with him then you know that you were the most important person in the world to him at that moment. He would give you his complete and utmost attention and he was/is a fantastic listener. As you may, know he spent the last couple of years as the full time caregiver of his mother. This consumed him in all ways and as exhausting as it was for him it provided him the similar experience of being a parent. He saw in his mother the child-like innocence and he saw Heaven in her eyes. He gave all his love to her and left none for himself. Last April he traveled to New Jersey with his mother to attend my daughter's birthday party. Both Rudy and his mother were so happy and were so loved at the party. I don't mind sharing with you that when I was having a private conversation with Rudy tears fell from his eyes because of the pure love he felt from us for him and his mother. It was his soul's recognition of the truest love and he remembered it at such a deep level that he wept. The picture I have included was taken at Padre Pio's Shrine in Barto, Pennsylvania. Rudy had a great love and respect for the Virgin Mary and for Saint Padre Pio. Rudy and I traveled to visit this shrine last year and Rudy was at home in this energy and loved the trip. It was also one of the rare times he was able to leave his mother in the care of aides which allowed him to have a break. Rudy taught me that the simple message of Padre Pio was "Pray, Hope, and Don't Worry." Rudy felt there was so much beauty and simplicity in these words. He even bought me a pillow, which I will now keep at the church with those exact words from Saint Pio. The picture will also be framed and kept at the church as a reminder of Rudy's love and light. As I write this "Somewhere over the Rainbow" is playing and tears are streaming down my face. This was the song I played at my mother's funeral. All is in Divine Order as the sermon I delivered this weekend was about "Our Rainbow Connection" to each other. He will be with us at AMC somewhere over our rainbow of love and spiritual light. It is no coincidence that this song comes on now as my love for Rudy shines through. I want you to know when you pray and talk to Rudy he WILL hear you and draw near to you as he just did for me. When we love we NEVER LOSE. What we think we have lost in the physical we have gained in spirit. I look forward to us bringing evidence of his continuation through the beauty of our mediumship. For those of us who have question after question and seek solace during this difficult time, I speak on Rev. Rudy's behalf when I ask you to "Pray, Hope and Don't Worry." God Bless all of you. Sincerely, Rev. Brian C. Funk
