News12 Ken Grimball retires.
I just want to say what an honor and privilege it's been working all these years with Ken Grimball, who just completed his last day here at News 12 Long Island. Dec.15, 1986 was our first day on the air and Kenny joined us just a short time later. I remember his first day -- a big guy with a big smile and a warm hello. He was always very dapper -- hats, colorful ties and shirts. Through the years, he always maintained his great personality -- warm, friendly, caring and kind. He was an immediate smash hit with viewers. I cannot tell you how many times when I was on a story people would ask me about Ken. His on-air sign off -- Ken Grimball, News "Twelva", Long Island -- became his signature. His deep baritone voice was good not only for the television news business, but singing as well. Some of you probably remember Ken singing the national anthem at a Ducks game. He devoted 30 years of his life to News 12 and we were happy to have him. He didn't want a big send off or an on-air goodbye, but Ken deserves that and a lot more. In all the years I worked with him, I never saw Ken have anything but a kind word for people. He's incredibly devoted to his family and has a deep-rooted faith in God as well. We'll miss him. Good luck Ken -- enjoy your family! Ken Grimball Kenneth Abe
