It all started back in 1966, Jerry Weathersby begin working for a hamburger franchise by the name of Burger Chef in Dublin Ga. Jerry was later transferred to Waycross Ga in 1974 where he managed the Burger Chef for the next 11 years.
The burger chef franchise took a big hit and begin closing stores across the region, eventually the entire franchise went out of business. Although Burger Chef was through, Jerry wasn’t.
Being a young, eager, self motivated young man, Jerry pursued to buy the Burger Chef restaurant in Waycross Ga. and open his own restaurant. The owners of the burger chef laughed and said he would never make it but Jerry said, all thinks are possible when the Lords involved and in control. So with $ in the bank and the Lord on his side, in 1985 the owners financed the building and Jerry move forward in owning his own restaurant we all knew as Jerry J’s Biscuits & Burgers.
Not only was Jerry successful in opening a new restaurant but just a few years later actually opened a second location in Waycross on the other side of town.
After several years selling burgers, fries and shakes at both locations, the competition became more and more competitive with big players like McDonalds, Hardees, Wendy’s, Burger king, ect.
This is when Jerry decided to change things up and take the idea of fast food, and turn it into fast country cooking or as we all know today as Jerry J’s Country Café.
In 1988, Jerry took one of his locations to try the fast country cooking concept and it was a big success. Jerry then took his second location and turned it into fast country cooking as well.
Now, working every day and trying to manage two restaurants can be challenging but Jerry had the privilege of having raised four sons and one daughter in which two of his sons would continue to move forward and work with him.
Son, James Weathersby and Step son Bengi Crosby begin working for him at the age of 15, working as a dishwasher, cook, head cook, Assistant manager and then moving on up to a general manager position.
Bengi, opened a third location (first franchise store) in Nahunta Ga. in 2005.
Not long after, younger brother James Weathersby opened the fourth location in Blackshear Ga.
Today, they are a total of six Jerry J’s locations and two of our latest concept restaurants name Hog-N-Bones breakfast and BBQ.
Jerry and his family know their blessings have been directed from God and do not fail to give thanks for the blessings bestowed upon them.
Jerry said, “I would be remiss if I did not give thanks to the father for his continued outpouring of blessings on myself, my family and my business”
