“Today, I know that I played a part in every negative situation that occurred in my life. I wasn't responsible for everything, but I wasn't blameless either. I just played a part. I contributed. I tried to fix, manage, and control, and when I didn't get my way, I got angry. I said hurtful things, and I tried to get revenge. Today, my life is happy. Although I am no longer living with active alcoholism, Al-Anon is my way of life. I had to learn to fix me. I took an inventory. I made amends. I readily recognized my old ways of behaving and, while I am still learning, my life has been completely transformed—thanks to a loving and forgiving God and the wonderful, recovering people of Al-Anon." “I didn't know my life had been affected by alcoholism until I was an adult," “The Forum" February 2017 Read this member's story and find out how Al-Anon helped her get to this happier place in her life, goo.gl/rah0TN. #AlAnon #Alateen #FamilyDisease #FamilyRecovery #myrecovery #12Step #recover #addiction #recoverywarrior #takingitback #outtacontrol #nomore #alcoholism #recovery #stressrelief #mindandbody #fact

“[The Al-Anon] program is about keeping the focus on me. It's about finding that wonderful balance where I do have some power—over my own life. Lovingly minding my own business, that's where I find my serenity." “Tradition Eleven: A necessary step in re-building trust," November 2015 Forum

“I was talking to a highway trooper in a coffee shop one day and he brought up an interesting point during our conversation. He stated that when a driver is tailgating, the driver in front is actually the one in control. He controls how fast or slow the driver behind him is going. A swerve to the left or right is mimicked because the tailgater can only see the car in front. The trooper was so right! The driver in front is controlling both cars. The next time I was behind the wheel, I had a new perspective. I saw how my life was before I came to Al-Anon. I was a tailgater, and my life was in chaos. The alcoholic was driving my car." “Step Two: Being able to see again restored me to sanity," “The Forum" February 2017 #AlAnon #Alateen #FamilyDisease #FamilyRecovery #myrecovery #recoverywarrior #takingitback #outtacontrol #nomore #fact #recovery #knowthedifference #alcoholism #recovery

“'Why should I go to #meetings if I'm not the one with the #problem?' is a big question for most #family #members. After all, if your spouse has a heart attack, you don't attend cardiac rehab. Maybe you do some reading or take a class, but that's it. You don't want to commit to more than that, do you? “If you're involved with an #alcoholic, the reality is you do have the problem. You didn't cause it, and you can't #control it, and you can't change the alcoholic's behavior—but you definitely feel the effects of #drinking. And you'll feel the effects of #recovery, too." “Why families of alcoholics need Al-Anon," “Al-Anon Faces Alcoholism 2017" In a recent #article by C.
