Do you have lateral knee pain or hip pain and do you rely on the use of a foam roller for the IT Band? Ask yourself why. Typically this can be due to a biomechanical dysfunction of the pelvis in which the tensor fascia Latae (TFL) is shortened. Foam rolling the IT Band won't help this. In a recent study, it was shown that in order to stretch or deform the IT Band 1% took 2074 pounds of pressure. Have a qualified PT analyze your gait, look at pelvic mobility on each side and look at the correlating musculature. The IT Band is reactive tissue so stretching TFL as well as correctling pelvic positioning on the same side will often help to reduce this...a foam roller won't.
