Crofton Nursery School Inc

Crofton Nursery School is a cooperative half-day preschool for three and four-year-olds. CNS was incorporated in 1968 by parents who wanted to be involved in their child’s education. They built a strong program and community that continues with our current membership. Our highly qualified teachers foster social and academic development through a range of fun and educational activities, including art, singing, dancing, reading, storytime, free play, field trips and more. The school’s 2-year kindergarten preparation curriculum offers children ample opportunities & encouragement to develop a sense of belonging, competence, independence, purposefulness, and responsibility.

Our teachers & parents work together in a warm and friendly atmosphere to teach our children cooperation, creativity, and caring for others. By assisting in the classroom, under the guidance of the teacher, parents have the opportunity for hands-on learning about child development. The friendly working relationship between parents and teachers often grows parents’ understanding of their child’s development and their parent/child relationships. Each family gives their time and skills to create a nurturing and joyful start to our children’s educational journeys.

Our classroom is spacious and bright with three areas, an open circle-time space, tables for art and snack & our free play area. We have an intentional variety of educational toys that encourage dramatic play, letter exploration, early reading skills & early math skills through curious play. Outdoors we use the designated blacktop area for hop-scotch, sidewalk chalk, running games, ball games, waterplay, bring your bike or trike days and more. We also have a fenced-in playground with a variety of equipment, including a sandbox, several kinds of climbers, and a mud kitchen, allowing for active and imaginative outdoor play.

Crofton Nursery School is a non-sectarian school housed in St. Stephens Episcopal Church, owned and operated by our members, located in a beautiful wooded setting between Crofton, Odenton, Gambrills, & Crownsville.
