OSHA Silica Rule ASCC/CEA Silica Sampling Partnership ASCC has partnered with the Construction Employers Association (CEA) to provide services for silica sampling. The objective is to develop an industry wide database of silica sampling information that can be utilized by participating members to develop an “Objective Database” of information concerning the type of mitigation activities (engineering, administrative and PPE) and control necessary to comply with the New Crystalline Silica Rule requirements. To participate in this program, you must sign up with ASCC and agree that you will contribute your data to the database. By contributing, you gain access to all of the sampling information in the CEA database. Access to this service is free to ASCC members. Pankow Wins Safety Award Congratulations to ASCC member Charles Pankow Builders Ltd., a general contractor in Oakland, CA, upon winning the Gary E. Bird Horizon Award. Pankow won for the “The 8 Lethal Hazards” a booklet they produced listing eight specific construction industry hazards they identified as the most dangerous they encounter for their type of work. The booklet is part of Pankow’s focus on Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) prevention, a new paradigm based on the concept of concentrating safety efforts on the hazards with the highest likelihood to kill or seriously injure a construction worker. The award is given by the International Risk Management Institute, Inc.

The Concrete Polishing Council (CPC), and the Safety & Risk Management Council (SRMC) have published four Job Hazard Analysis Forms (JHAs) for polished concrete projects. They are Layout Power Cords, Changing Polishing Pucks, Equipment to Polish Concrete Floor, and Fueling & Grounding of Generator. These and numerous other Job Hazard Analysis Forms for cast-in-place concrete work are available for ASCC members only at www.ascconline.org.
