It's National Elephant Apprection Day! Here are some fun facts about these beautiful creatures. Enjoy! :) 1.) Female African elephants undergo the longest pregnancy, which is twenty-two months. 2.) Elephants can get sunburnt, so they protect themselves by throwing sand on their back. They also do this to keep the bugs off of them. 3.) An elephant's trunk contains 40,000 muscles with no bones.
For all those who will join together on September 22nd in honoring the largest land animal in world

Meet Miss Maggie. This sweet girl came in after being attacked by a coyote. Dr. Moody cleaned her wounds and took abdominal and chest x-rays. After sending her x-rays to a referral radiologist specialist, they found that the ninth and tenth ribs are fractured at the distal third and she has some gas under her skin. The ribs will heal in six to eight weeks with cage rest and the gas under the skin will go down with time. Maggie has been recovering well with antibiotics, pain medication, and rest. Maggie had a follow up appointment with Dr. Moody this week and is doing well.

Just another day at All Creatures! There is never a dull moment here :)

We are honored to see some of the many animals that Janice at Rocky Ridge Refuge rescues. We know these guys will be in great hands under her care! If you'd like to donate to this rescue, please visit their Facebook page or go to rockyridgerefuge.com.
OK folks, here are my next rescues coming in. Many of you know I have taken/helped many of the abandoned dogs in Texas. Houston alone was estimated to have over a MILLION strays before the hurricane. Several groups try hard to feed and help some of these animals in some of the worst areas, where pets are dumped daily and often after years of abuse and/or neglect. Corridor Rescue is one great group of volunteers working tirelessly to do what they can for as many as they can. This pitiful dog wandered up to one of their houses and has been at the vet for several days. How he survived the storms and flooding is unknown, but he has a had a terrible life that thankfully has a bright future now. The last pic is a dog that has been on the streets a long while near Melrose Park, where my friend, Melissa, helps so many and where I have taken in many from. Though she has been fed by the community, she has had many litters and is in heat now. She has many parasites and almost certainly heartworms. She and 20 other strays found a bridge to huddle on to survive the flooding, but sadly many disappeared anyway. I am working on getting these 2 dogs here as soon as I can arrange transport. The Corridor folks named the first one 'Benji', and I hope to talk to the vet tomorrow to get a status update and outstanding balance I told them I would cover. Melissa is hoping to locate the other dog and get her safely to the same vet tomorrow. Please pray that happens and all works out to get them here before too much longer. Thank you :)
