MEI was established to provide affordable housing, meals and support services to the most vulnerable women in San Francisco. For the past 100 years MEI has offered a safe place for women to receive the support that they need to sustain permanent supportive housing and overcome chronic homelessness, domestic violence, and debilitating mental health and substance abuse issues.
MEI offers two permanent supportive housing programs that in total provide 160 units of permanent subsidized housing with comprehensive support services. Our other programming consists of computer education and employment support, drop-in services for homeless women and their children, and a daily free meal program and food pantry that feeds up to 100 women a day.
Women served by The Mary Elizabeth Inn include those who are homeless, have a history of substance abuse, have physical and mental disabilities, and victims of domestic violence.
