In the spring of 2008, Ben Van Leeuwen, with wife Laura ONeill and brother Peter Van Leeuwen, launched Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream out of beautiful, creamy yellow scoop trucks in NYC. Their goal was to offer the purest traditional ice cream.
We make our ice cream Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and in upstate NY using only fresh hormone and antibiotic-free milk and cream, cane sugar and egg yolks. We meticulously source our flavors from small producers all over the world. Our ice cream is always free of stabilizers, gums, corn syrup, milk powder and condensed milk. Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream is about 30% less sweet than most super premium ice creams, which allows the true flavor to come through. The butterfat content is 19%.
