As #OccupationalTherapyMonth continues, a couple of members of our team are sharing why they chose Occupational Therapy as their career and what they enjoy most about their jobs. Curtis Boyd, Certified Hand Therapist shares his thoughts below! "I have been working for Lovelace for six years now. I decided to pursue Occupational Therapy after taking an interests test at the Counseling Center my freshman year at the University of Nebraska. It was a questionnaire of over 200 questions to assess my likes and dislikes, and when the results came back, I scored high in careers such as teaching, paramedics, radiology, and something called 'Occupational Therapy'. I had never heard of it but this test kick started my interest in OT. I typically see clients that have a hand injury or clients with lymphedema issues. Whatever the problem is, it is usually interrupting their lives and they want help with it. Spending so much time face to face with clients allows you to get to know them and what they are going through. In general, most clients are motivated and cooperative, but we need to instill confidence in them because if you don’t think that something is possible, it’s going to be hard to get anywhere. I really like my job. There are so many non-tangibles that I get from this kind of work. I get lots of thank you’s and hugs. I get to know my client’s families. It’s a very healthy environment to be in where you feel appreciated for what you do."
